Reflection:
What does peace in the world look like? To be somebody to another person.
Isn’t it amazing when you are loved by someone? When you are with another person, and it is like you are the only person in the world who matters to them at that moment?
This was the love and respect that Mother Teresa had for each person. She knew the reason for material, emotional, and spiritual poverty in the world was because, all too often, we choose not to treat people like people, like they really matter.
When Mother Teresa received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979, she told the story of a poor child. Mother said that this child knew the MC’s didn’t have any sugar. So, this poor child decided not to eat any sugar for three days, so that the sugar could be saved to give to Mother Teresa.
Mother Teresa was profoundly touched by the love of this poor child. In this child’s poverty, he still sacrificed and gave what he had to help another poor person he knew.
And this is how peace can be brought about. We are all poor. But we can all be people of peace when we choose to love the poor people around us, even when it hurts.
